Download Stats

It has been almost six months1 since RPyC 3 was first released, and I decided to analyze the download statistics from sourceforge. I expected each new release to replace the previous ones (e.g., once 3.0.4 was out, I did not expect to see downloads of 3.0.3, etc.), so I find the results rather puzzling:

It seems that older versions (e.g., 3.0.0, 3.0.1, and even the RC versions!) are still getting downloads, and not negligible figures. As you can see in March, for instance, 3.0.0 gets 38 downloads and 3.0.1 gets 58, while 3.0.2 gets only 17. I can't find any suitable explanation for this trend — it seems like people are intentionally downloading older versions :)

Maybe sites around the web link explicitly to specific versions and people follow these links without checking for newer releases? Or maybe it's package manager scripts (RPMs/portage) that download explicitly these versions? I don't think there are many prepackaged versions of RPyC. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

Anyway, in case you're a human who wants to download RPyC, always choose the latest version :)
